What is a licence?
The use of software without the correct
licence is illegal. ProAsset has licensing options for every type of
user. Whether you are an individual user or an organisation with over
five desktop PCs, make sure you are fully licensed.
What is a software
licence?
A software licence grants the user the legal right to use a
piece of software. You only own the licence to use that piece of software -
not the software itself. For each ProAsset
software product used, a licence is granted to the user and documented in
the End User Licence Agreement (EULA). The software is protected by
copyright law, which states that the product cannot be copied without
permission of the copyright holder.
Why is licensing
important?
Many people are unaware that the use of 1 in 4 software
packages by UK organisations is illegal - that is without the proper licence.
Despite penalties, including unlimited fines and up to two years'
imprisonment for company principals, many organisations still unwittingly
breach copyright laws.
Software piracy
One of the most common types of software piracy is the
simple copying of software by individuals and organisations that do not have
the requisite licence to do so. Known within the software industry as
'end-user copying', this type of software piracy also includes:
the installation of software by an
organisation on more desktop PCs than its licences allow. ie.
under-licensing
informal disk-swapping among friends and
colleagues.
All of these activities are illegal because those using the copied
software do not have a proper licence to use it.

Subscription Licensing is a licensing agreement especially suited to a business that wants
the right to use the latest version of chosen software
and support, payable on a subscription basis.
Subscription Licences are automatically covered by Software Assurance
for the term of the agreement and are 'perpetual' - so, you have the right
to use the software indefinitely.

There is Software Assurance coverage on every
SubscriptionLicence
(SL) so whenever a software upgrade is released, you
automatically have the right to install it. Even if you
choose not to renew your agreement, you'll retain the right
to use that software version for as long as you choose.

use software by spreading
payments over a number of years - and the fee
is fixed for the
full agreement term.
